Newfoundlands - Future Breedings

We are not planning any more Newfoundland Litters...

After much soul searching i have decided not to continue to breed Newfoundlands, even though Indy has very good health test results, i personally feel that the breed is suffering with far too many health problems.

I have no desire to breed dogs who grow to become crippled by hip, patella or elbow problems or who suffer with heart conditions (i know of 4 different hereditary heart problems in this breed), it is becoming increasingly difficult to find lines which are guaranteed clear of problems even though individual dogs are testing clear, the problems are still in the genes. Also be on the lookout for epilepsy, cystinuria and eye lid problems.

I applaud breeders who continue to strive to improve this wonderful breed, and who do so with health in mind and body at the heart of their breeding programmes, unfortunately i feel i can no longer take the heartache involved in producing beautiful puppies who grow to develop problems later in life.
