- Puppies Available
Things to ask:- If You are looking for a puppy please ask to see copies of the following documents - a genuine caring breeder will be happy and proud to show these to you:-
If the breeder claims they do not need to test as they do not have this problem in their lines...walk away. Everyone needs to test. Personally i would look for at least one, preferably both, of the parents to be a champion or have done some big winning either CC or RCC winners, if neither have won anything i would question 'why breed?' They cannot be looking to improve the breed or keep something for show (even though they may say this) as they would be using the best dogs they could find not the most local. Good quality champion males are freely available to well bred health tested bitches, so why breed to second rate male? Ask to see a pedigree and there should be champions scattered in all generations, as a breeder if your dog is not good enough to breed you should not breed, if you want to show or 'improve' the breed you buy the best well bred bitch you can and start there, she should have a pedigree littered with champions. The ONLY exception to this is dogs bred to work, but it should be very clear that the dogs are worked regularly and there should be lots of evidence of this at the breeders home. Newfoundland puppies command high prices and produce big litters and there are a lot of people out there who exploit this beautiful breed for the money. 2 litters a year of 10 pups at £1000 each tax free is a big income... please do not buy from these people, talk to the breed club, go to dogs shows and find a good breeder. It is NOT true that well bred, champion bred puppies are more expensive than 'pet' puppies. Do not think i only want a pet and therefore i am not interested in the pedigree, be interested, you will not pay any more for a well bred puppy from a reputable breeder, and you will have support for the rest of your dogs life. Also different colours are not rare and therefore more expensive, if a breeder tells you this run away. A reputable breeder will charge the same fee for all of their puppies irrespective of colour or sex, though they may charge a slightly higher price for show potential puppies or those who have been run on with a view to show. Never pay any deposit until you have seen copies of all the health certificates and the breeders premises. If they refuse to send copies then don't buy. If they say they will have them next week or they are misplaced - don't buy. If you are unhappy with the conditions of the dogs - and remember to look at all of their dogs, especailly the adults out the back... do not buy, you will only perpetuate the missery of ill bred puppies, and encourage these despicable people to breed another litter - for the money. If it is that bad, and you feel you need to get the puppy out, don't - report them to the RSPCA.
